An interactive performance for young people about their understanding of the landscape of Exmoor.

As a result of Common Players previous collaborations with The National Trust and Common Ground, the company was approached by The Exmoor Society and Exmoor National Park, with a view to creating a performance to tour schools.

At the heart of the project was the question “What should we do with the land, plant trees, animals or windmills?” Working in close association with National Park Education Officer Dave Gurnett and Park Historian Brian Pearce, writer Jon Croose created a play which was both stimulating and educational. The show used multimedia and interactive forum Theatre methods, actively drawing the audience into making decisions on how the story should unfold.

The production toured to 24 schools, giving 35 performances to more than 2900 people The project had a great impact in schools and clearly foregrounded the work of The Education Department of the National Park. Common Players were subsequently invited to make a presentation to the annual conference of National Parks, and there is enthusiasm for reviving the work in future.
