Cabra Farm Welcome Wassail Saturday 10th May at 4 o'clock.

"We're just seeking the Good Life."  So says Alli Nash of Cabra Farm nearUffculme.   Alli, her husbandJohn and their five sons, Charlie, Fred, Jack, Elliot and Herbie all help workthe land and look after an amazing stock of rare breed animals, on the 20 acresof Mid Devon land.

Both John and Alli believe in the old traditions ofsmall-holding farming, looking after their animals well, working the landthemselves and using what they produce and breed for food.  They also want to introduce their youngfamily to a heritage which they feel has been often lost in this busy, stressful high-tech world.   The family dream of self-sufficiency began in August 2006when the land was purchased and the months since then have been extremely hardwork. Now they are living on their land, working it and proving that theirintentions are genuine.  They hopein the years to come to build a home on the land.

The family breed Palomio/Arab cross horses and they alsohave Jacobs' & Shetland sheep, Angora goats and Gloucester Old Spotpigs.  Ali has learned to spin thewool form the sheep and goats.   Under the watchful eye of Adam Montague the Apple Animateurfrom "Cider with Roadies".  the couplehave also planted a new traditional orchard of  local and old apple varieties, including  Balck Dabinet, Don's Delight, BrownsApple and good old Bramley. Cabra Farm is staging a "Welcome Wassail" to offer goodspirit to the new orchard on Saturday 10th May at 4 o'clock.

The event is in partnership with theCommon Players Theatre project, "Cider with Roadies" and the company's mobile applepress will be at the event, pressing a few apples (not from the new trees ofcourse) and offering the juice to taste. There will also be apple cake and flapjack to try.  The Wassail will be led by Michael andWendy Dacre of "Raventales."  They will be telling traditional tales, singing songs and introducingthe audience to their Giants.

Entry to this unique event will cost£3 adults and £2children, with a family ticket ( 2+2) being £8. Apple refreshments included inthe price. If you would like to come along and be part of the Wassail, or ifyou need more information,  pleasecontact Adam on 01392 881973 or This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it  For more information about the Cider with Roadies projectand events take a look at www.common-players.org.uk
