Smuggler’s Gold!
Bill Widger’s house is falling into the sea – so why won’t the old fisherman leave his cottage on the clifftop? Strange visitors have been waking him in the night, taking him through time to explore the beautiful ancient landscape of the Jurassic Coast. Bill Widger has a secret, and he won’t let go until he’s solved the mystery, but time is running out and you can’t fight the forces of nature, oh no.

Smuggler’s Gold! is the first episode of Longshore Drift a three-year performance project leading to a proposed maritime theatrical carnival event in which audiences sail along the Jurassic Coast in a flotilla of small boats. The project received £9k funding from the East Devon District Council Natural Environment Awareness Grant Scheme for the development of a theatrical script and a drama-based Teaching Pack. The Smuggler’s Gold! script featured in the pack will also form the basis for a theatrical show by the Common Players, which we plan to tour to East Devon schools and community venues in late 2010, subject to further funding.
