Welcome!

Welcome to the Common Players website.  We were first established in 1989 as a charity and limited company.  The original aim, which remains true today, was to provide theatre productions and activities for rural communities of the South West, particularly for people with limited access, to see and interact with professional theatre.

Feel free to have a look around, and please Contact Us if you need more information.

Our Chair of Trustees writes:

‘Since 1989, Common Players have been seeking to inspire communities, through theatre and participatory work, to develop their own creative aspirations. Theatre lies at the heart of our work. We aim to produce original, exciting and relevant theatre both for and with people who, usually because of where they live, have little chance to experience the excitement of live performance. Our Theatre is informed by an understanding of past traditions whilst embracing new opportunities afforded by technology, striving for our work to have impact long after we have packed our van and moved onto our next venue. Our work is not static. We evolve as we form new partnerships, taking us in exciting new directions, continuing our journey exploring the transformative potential of arts in our communities. Our website will give you information about our history, our working methods, partnerships and, I hope, communicate the passion we have for our work. But rather than just read about The Common Players, I also invite you to experience our work. You can find find out our work schedule here.'
