Scared to take a bite out of life? Pip the apple feels the same way - until temptation arrives in the seductive form of Mr Badfinger, who wants to put the squeeze on her.
Haunted by the memory of her Uncle Alan - and his tragic demise - Pip embarks on a voyage of discovery involving live music, puppetry and dynamic performances - and she takes the audience with her every step of the way. Dare she enter the presence of The Big Apple? What exactly is the Importance of Being Eaten? And is she ready to finally take the plunge? This will be newly minted show, the first of a Trilogy of Apple Plays commissioned from Jon Stokes who has performed with Common Players in Taylors' Tractor and Stormy Weather. Suitable for families (and individuals), it's directed by Anthony Richards, and rooted in traditions of mummers' tales and stories told by troubadors, with live music. Primary Schools visits
Primary schools visits are best accompanying a visit of the Apple Press, and it's even better if the pupils can also get to see The Big Squeeze.
We are offering a full day's activity in local schools, working with a Key stage 2 class, enthusing young people about local apples. Heather Fallows is our Apple Educator and she has designed a choice of three different days based around curriculum areas; Language, Literacy and Poetry, Art and Design and Health, Food and Nutrition. Please contact Mary Elliott our Tour Booker for more details or ring 01392 881400. Pomona the Apple Press
A one-day visit of our trailer-mounted apple press, to be made available for local apple pressing.
The idea is to park- up Pomona in a central location where people can bring their apples to be pressed. Roughly the following sequence takes place: Around midday Pomona arrives and is set up. At between 12.30 & 1pm Pomona is active and available to press local apples. Recorded music plays throughout and apple advice and information is given. Individuals and groups (school groups) can bring along apples and participate in the pressing of them. Up to two buckets of apples (or equivalent) per person can be easily accommodated. Pomona can produce some 50 litres an hour, but she needs willing helpers. During the afternoon Adam our Apple Animateur will run a short course (20mins) on the basics of apple identification. Should anyone require a professional, definitive identification this opportunity will be possible for a small fee and forms will be available on the day of the press visit. The last press will take place about 45 minutes before the performance time; see local venue promotion for details. In 2008, we will be offering two more live presentations, parts 2 and 3 of the Apple trilogy. One performance will be written for presenting to primary school audiences and the other will be created for performances at community feasts and harvest suppers, both new and old. Review/Press |
